Sunset Over Nyhavna – Photographs from Høvringen

One late evening in April, I made my way down to Høvringen by Ladehammeren. It was one of those evenings where the light couldn’t have been more beautiful – the sun slowly dipped behind the Trondheim Fjord, the sky blazed in warm colors to the west, and then gave way to the deep, majestic blue hour. With a camera in hand and the sea breeze on my face, this is one of those places in the city where time seems to slow down.

Høvringen is a small gem along the shoreline, offering a direct view across to Nyhavna – an area that has played a significant role in Trondheim’s industrial history. For over a hundred years, Nyhavna was home to shipyards, warehouses, and military facilities. It was largely closed off to the public, but that is now changing.

Today, Nyhavna is one of the most exciting urban development projects in Trondheim. The city has ambitious plans for the area: it will be opened up, developed, and transformed into a vibrant district with housing, workplaces, cultural venues, and waterfront promenades. Much of the old industrial architecture will be preserved, giving the area a distinctive character – and it’s precisely this blend of old and new that makes Nyhavna so unique and photogenic, especially in the right light.

Standing at Høvringen with a camera in the evening offers a panoramic view of it all: the fjord reflecting the colors, the city skyline on the horizon, and Nyhavna gradually coming to life. Here, nature, industry, and the future meet – and as the final light of the day brushes over the waves, it almost feels like you’re looking into the Trondheim of tomorrow.

As the sun sets over the fjord and the blue hour settles in, the industrial past and the future of Trondheim meet across the water. Nyhavna, once a closed-off harbor area, is now transforming into a vibrant waterfront district. From Høvringen, you get the perfect view – where history, nature, and change come together in the most stunning light.
